Village Development
Modelled after the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement of Sri Lanka, the village development program in the 16 villages adjascent to Dongheswari has been adjusted to suit the local customs and needs.
The transformation of Dongheswari
In order to address the contaminated water supply and the non-hygenic environment, stepwise programs are put to village development. Housing repairs, road repairs, land reclamation are being run through the voluntary participations of the villagers, stimulating the villagers' motivation to bring improvements.
Village Shramadan (Community Labour)
In oder to bring cooperations between the community members, villager shramadans are run to tackles works needed by the village. Construction projects such as road repair, well digging, construction of preschools and village cleanup are run by the voluntary participations of the villagers.
Skills training
For income generating activities, sewing, agricultural skills and typing classes are held. Previously held for senior students in Sujata Academy, the classes are now run with villagers.
Other programs
Population census, Hindi class and villager football tournaments are held to bring harmon within villages and community.
